The Tennessee Acupuncture Council extends heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors who supported our efforts to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene. In collaboration with local organizations and individuals, we have been able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardships.
A significant part of our efforts was supporting Second Harvest in Cocke County, a region severely impacted by the hurricane. This organization works tirelessly across the area, including neighboring communities in North Carolina. In honor of the Miranda Genese Hill Scholarship Fund, Cocke County resident Jackie Stewart made a touching connection and contributed $1,000 to our fundraising efforts. This generous gift, combined with donations from others, brought our total contribution to Second Harvest to $1,650. Notable contributions include a $500 donation from Dr. Michael and Vickie Hood, $100 from Alexandria Russell, and $50 from Serina Scott. We have also received financial donations for TAC to buy supplies in order to get out to these areas and provide free community acupuncture.
Beyond financial support, the Council has actively engaged in outreach efforts to provide care and services to impacted communities. We hosted our first event at Serina Scott’s clinic in Morristown the weekend following the flooding. Additionally over the past two months, our acupuncturists volunteered in Newport, Hartford, and Erwin, Bristol and Johnson City bringing vital care and relief to those in need. We would also like to thank the swift actions and generosity of Acupuncture Without Borders who offered to train the TAC Board in an all day class in Trauma informed care and setting up a community acupuncture clinic on Oct 8th.
We are especially grateful to our suppliers, including Evil Bone Water, Emily’s Skin Soother, Mayway, Dragon Blood Balm, Golden Needle Supply, LhasaOMS, and Gaia Herbs, whose generous donations of topicals and herbal supplies have significantly enhanced our outreach efforts.
The Council would like to recognize the tireless efforts of our Board members:
- Alexandria Russell, Bonnie Forrester, and Serina Scott, for donating their time and expertise in providing acupuncture services.
- Rachelle Poffenberger and Mel Feigel, for their coordination and dedication in organizing donations and support.
- We also want to recognize the acupuncture students who have helped assist at these events. They have been invaluable and added so much to our community efforts.
The entire Board mobilized swiftly and effectively to ensure we could meet the needs of our communities during this critical time.
As recovery continues, our outreach efforts will remain ongoing. The Council has supplies available to assist acupuncturists affected by Hurricane Helene, as well as those actively volunteering in impacted areas. We want to thank those who have signed up through our website and joined the volunteer list or requested donations.
We also want to celebrate the wider acupuncture community. If you are an acupuncturist involved in outreach or relief efforts, we’d love to hear your stories! Let’s continue to inspire and support one another as we rebuild together.
